The way they celebrated it all together was really cool to see!
Seemed to be a great podium!

I LOVE that stuff so much. This is why I watch the Olympics.

Happy for Kokomo. Japan sweeps Gold in Big Air Men’s and Women’s.

The crazy thing is the best Japanese big air rider didn’t even medal (Hiroto Ogiwara, Mr. 2340)

If the jump was bigger he probably would have

japan killing it in the big air snowboarding!
love seeing the girls all be supportive of each other

A shame Yu wiped out on her last jump, I think she might’ve been able to get into Silver if she had landed it. But there’s way worse Olympic debuts than a bronze at 17 years old.
rawchess
Sad we didn’t get to see everyone’s biggest tricks but great contest nevertheless, best big air I’ve ever seen from the ladies!

damn that hand brush was probably the difference between zoi getting silver or gold, still great come back after the first run

That was so fun (and tense) to watch!

To be fair to us down here, NZ has some awesome snow because it’s so far south. It’s not like Australia where we barely get any, they have mountains with proper snowfall. If you’re Aussie and want to ski you either go to NZ or Japan
SystemZero
Every time we went boarding in Banff/Kananaskis etc. when growing up there were so many Aussie’s working there.
universe93
That’s just due to good working holiday arrangements between Aus and Canada and the Aussie desire to see real snow. Plus the university year in Australia follows the calendar year, so the North American ski season falls during our summer holiday break so it works out well

The Snowy Mountains don’t get proper snowfall?
universe93
They do, but just barely. It’s pretty crappy snow that doesn’t even cover the trees, people from overseas who see it often say it’s pathetic lol. Keep in mind temperatures don’t go below -5C, even in the snowy mountains, and that’s probably the lowest temp it gets in Australia. The entire ski season lasts for a few weeks maximum. It just doesn’t get cold enough for proper snowfall. Meanwhile the alpine areas in NZ’s South Island can get to -10C or lower, their record is -21C.

Can anyone explain why Mia Brookes’ 3rd run was disqualified? I realise she caught a nasty edge after landing.
But she didn’t fall or put her hands down
TheSessionMan
It wasn’t a disqualification it was a “Did Not Improve”. It was worse than the other spin in that direction so they didn’t bother giving it a score because it wouldn’t have counted to her overall points anyways.
funnystuff79
It was a 1620 degree rotation, one of the only ones of the night, but I appreciate that the final execution may not have been up to par
TheSessionMan
Yeah but she didn’t land it. She ALMOST landed it. She had a revert which essentially counts as a crash. That’s when you’re still spinning when you hit the snow and have to do a 180 on the ground to prevent you from falling. You need to stop your rotation as much as possible before landing and Mia didn’t have enough air time and control to.
I expected Kokomo, Zoi, and Mia to be on the podium today based on their performance this season, but the podium that happened was totally fair – it just wasn’t Mia’s day.

Guess that’s the type of rule that doesn’t get explained in commentary, thanks
RhubarbSensitive401
They explained this in the BBC commentary – although it looked like she landed it, she over-rotated (I’m not a snowboarder I don’t know the technical terms lol) so technically didn’t
She seemed super happy though – as she said if she’d gone for a 12/14 she likely would have been 4th any way, and so she had to go big! Good for her:
Loved all of them cheering each other on and hugging as well.

The revert after landing killed the score
Agreeable_Falcon1044
She did land it but got a DNI…which means her first a score was better. So you were right but the wobble knocked her down below her original score

I have absolutely no idea about snow boarding but that was brilliant to watch.

Those plushies are Tina, the official mascot. Several past Olympics (and Paralympics too!) gave out plushies of the mascots with accents matching the medal colour.

As a Aussie big congrats to New Zealand 🇳🇿!! They’ve really invested in their team this year and stepped it up. They usually can’t afford to send so many people

Daft question I am hoping someone more knowledgeable than me can illuminate:
Why was Mia Brookes a DNI on the third jump?
It wasn’t pretty, wouldn’t have been a winner but why didn’t it count?
NikonUser66
The judges deemed it was not as good as the previous two jumps so gave it a Did Not Improve. It was because when she landed she rotated 180 on the ground to stop from falling over. That’s a big points deduction.
