Compare this to Coors HR factor of 108 from 2020~2022 and 106 from 2023~2025.
Common misconception about Coors is that it is extreme HR friendly. It is an extreme hitter friendly park, but the main mechanism is through much more singles and doubles than more HRs.

Yeah the outfield being huge, pitches not breaking the same, and the thin air is a recipe for tons of hits but shorter fences have more of a HR impact than the thin air.

gave up a lot of home runs in 2025. but it’s interesting this is the 2nd guy the rockies have signed (Lorenzen was 1st) who throws 6 or more pitches. seems like they’re following a similar strategy to the Royals, where you go after a pitcher who can throw a a bunch of different pitch types in any count to keep hitters guessing. Coors Field suppresses stuff, especially high spin stuff like sliders and four seamers. so going after pitchers with wide arsenals and decent command is a valid strategy. we’ll see if it works out.

yeah I could see them keeping tabs on Bassitt, and I agree he should be getting enough attention from contenders that he wouldn’t sign with Colorado. i was gonna say they should be kicking the tires on Civale but it looks like he just signed with the A’s

That’s the crazy thing about coors. Balls travel further and pitchers have a harder time getting stuff to spin. Just a double wammy.

It still spins here, just doesn’t move as much. I have a feeling they’re going to have a lot of guys who can throw a splitter and have good change ups, those pitches seem to be less affected by the altitude.

it totally sucks for pitchers. they need a strong offense. real gritty, strong bat to ball types. i really hope the new FO starts drafting those types. no more Charlie Condons and Ethan Hollidays (who, admittedly, could very well pan out BUT their hit tools are universally graded as weak)

By the “stuff breaks less” logic, doesn’t that mean a multi-tooled pitcher is a weaker option than a power pitcher? *All* of his pitches will break less with a lower spin rate so trickery will be weaker over all.

When I think of a true power pitcher, I think of a guy like Tyler Glasnow who has two awesome pitches, his fastball and curveball. his stuff either goes up (4SM) or it goes down (CB). a guy who covers all kinds of movement, vertical and lateral, can keep a hitter a little more off balance. but I do agree that if you have fringe stuff the margin for error is really small. even smaller at altitude.

I honestly don’t know about this signing. Sugano couldn’t suppress the home run ball, couldn’t miss bats, and gave up a lot of hard contact in the form of barrels. His only reds on Savant are his offspeeds, which should do alright in Coors, and his walk rate, which was elite. He has a wide arsenal but a lot of those pitches are breaking stuff (splitter, sweeper, slider). Maybe I’m wrong though.
