試合が終わるころには、海外掲示板は「日本はマジで伝説級」「1安打しか打たせないのはひどい」「初戦で日本を引くとか罰ゲームだろ」と、敬意と悲鳴が入り混じった空気に包まれていました。

This style of baseball that Japan’s is freaking annoying to face off against. They have plate discipline and slap hit when possible and to top it off they also have a few elite power hitters to free up the bases. It goes a bit against analytics that prefers the long ball, but these weird bloops fuck up the mind of a pitcher. You are constantly at edge.
MLB should value slap hitting more and appreciate a variation in hitting approach. I can envision a lot of scenarios such as Gerrit Cole covering first base in the World Series. Or I can see these slow, heavy and tall pitchers get tired the fuck out from having to play defense all the time. One of these weird developments in Japanese baseball to counter the dead ball I guess.

Well that’s the end of Taiwans Tournament. Best now I’m hoping they come back in 15 hours and beat the Czech Republic. They at least have to qualify for next tournament.

WSBC rankings are based on all tournaments so u-12, u-15, u-18, etc. Obviously most of these tournaments, teams aren’t sending their best.
For example Taiwan won the Premier12 last year, but you definitely didn’t hear about because no pros from the MLB competed in it. They also do really well at the u-12 tournament as they are the hosts every single time.

Personally I wouldn’t say “regressing” but something doesn’t add up with this team even with the injuries. I haven’t watched that 2024 Premier12 tournament that they won but you would assume that would mean they would be at the very least “fairly good” a year and a half later.
