What stands out to me about Mao is her mental strength. Her ability to lock in and compose herself after having poor practice sessions prior is truly remarkable. Hopefully this is a key for longevity.

I love how fast she spins in the air. It makes her jumps feel so electric. Her speed in spins is also really good. I’m impressed at how her rotation speed actually picks up when she changes position into a high leg hold which usually slows skaters down at the end of their spins.

The streak extends to 21. She’s never lost an international event across 6 seasons (1 advanced novice, 4 junior, 1 senior). Has never finished off the podium at senior nationals. And she’s so calm doing it.

Every time I see her skate I can see the musical growth. She’s slowly improving and figuring it out and it’s wonderful to see.

im a huge isabeau fan but i have to agree, saki outskated her at this event

I’ll say it again, reputation based scoring is so frustrating. I’ve no doubt Saki would have been on the podium had she been competing internationally for a while.

何度でも言う。実績で点が決まる採点は本当にもどかしい。咲綺がしばらく国際大会に出ていたら、間違いなく表彰台に乗ってたと思う

Reputation scoring/underscoring robbing Saki of a podium finish is especially upsetting since I can only imagine how insanely helpful a medal could be for her in the eyes of the JFed, whereas Isabeau is rock solid in terms of receiving US support. The Japanese women's field is just so deep and getting her deserved podium finish at her first international comp could've been huge for her.

実績重視の採点で咲綺が表彰台を逃したのは特に悔しい。メダルがあれば日本スケート連盟の評価にとんでもなく効いたはずだから。イザボーはアメリカ連盟の後ろ盾が盤石なのに。日本女子は層が厚すぎるから、国際大会デビュー戦で実力どおりの表彰台に立てていたら大きかったのに
