I like his role and energy off the bench more. He gets to be way more involved in the action, and I think it helps motivate him more on defense. When he’s out there with Luka/LeBron/Austin, he’s basically relegated to standing in the corner, but when it’s only one of them on court, he’s cutting, posting up, doing pnrs, etc

Surprise, the Lakers horrible bench got better by sending their 5th option to the bench to allow him to play more aggressive with the rest of the bench unit, instead of sitting in a corner watching the stars. It was so obvious that the quickest fix to improve both the starting lineup and bench, was making Rui the 6th man and adding more defense to the starting 5. I’m glad JJ finally made the move

Rui’s been a lot more confident coming off the bench knowing that his number is called with the 2nd unit. It’s a big difference compared to how he plays with the starters. He gets to build up his groove and then rides it into the 4th where he’s more comfortable being aggressive when needed.

I’m a biiiggg Rui supporter, but before the season even started it was clear to me that you can’t start AR, Luka, Rui, Lebron, and Ayton together. There’s just absolutely no defense and energy. His shooting fits, but even then he was rarely getting the ball. He would go entire games touching the ball less than 10 times while playing 30+ minutes. He is still playing around 30ish minutes but becomes so much more relevant with one of Bron or Luka off the floor. He moves from the 4th or 5th option to oftentimes the 2nd or 3rd option with bench lineups.

I love the stepped up defense, but can people stop with the “We back post” Variance and hot streak, grats on playing defense, but I don’t rely on Rui nor any role player shooting 9-11 and needing touches to get him going. Maybe the formula was always there. You stagger all your rotattions to have one defensive guy with an offensive guy and role the dice. Nothing today changes the fact that the team is wildly inconsistent. BUT it’s a start. If the next game Rui goes, 5-11 with 2 rebounds 1 stock, then you’ll be like damn, we suck.

As a started he doesn’t really see the shot opportunities because too much usage between Bron, Luka, and with Reaves when he returns. He loses interest and basically becomes useless. As a sixth men he gets those shot opportunities and plays with a lot of confidence on both ends on the floor. Good for the team and good for him.

先発だとブロンとルカと（復帰後の）リーブスの使用率が高くてシュート機会がない。気持ちが切れて使い物にならない。シックスマンだとチャンスが増え、攻守で自信を持てる。チームにも本人にも良い

Lots of stuff. Due to the offense-heavy starting lineup that the Lakers had with Rui in it, he was guarding the opposite team’s best wing every single night. That’s a ridiculous ask of him. Offensively, he was just getting stuck in the corner never touching the ball. Every night he’d be the 4th or 5th option depending on how Ayton is playing. Off the bench, he’s the 2nd or 3rd option. His job isn’t just stand in the corner and wait for Luka or Bron to find him when he’s coming off the bench. Also, he plays a lot better in lineups with other defenders like Vando, Smart, and LaRavia as they can muck up the game and are good ball movers. Luka is an all-time passer, but he’s also very much a dribble the ball for 17 seconds and then make the pass and you better make that shot-type passer.

I’m cool with keeping him if he’s in a bench role! Our bench has been ass at scoring all season so it just makes more sense this way anyways.

Can’t play the 3, getting lost on chasing shooters over screens. Late on perimeter rotations. As a backup 4 /small ball 5 he doesnt really have to worry about that.

The bench role is what he needs to embrace. We NEED someone off the bench in the first and third to offload Bron’s size and scoring when he rests during that period even if he doesn’t have the playmaking or shot creation. He is an absolutely elite marksman on a team that has no real knockdown guys besides him. His problem is that when he’s not shot making, he provides very little, although I loved his defensive activity against Chicago last night.
